HISTORY OF SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL CAGAYAN DE ORO

The word Soroptimist comes from two Latin words “soror” meaning sister and “optima” meaning best. Soroptimists are women at their best, working to help other women to be their best.

Soroptimist International of Cagayan de Oro City was formally organized by Soroptimist International of Davao City headed by Soroptimists Helen Madrazo, then Vice President for Mindanao and Past President Pat Montemayor, on October 10, 1976.

Soroptimist International of CDO owe its forty-seven (47) years of success to the committed and concerned women who hold top positions in their respective businesses and professions. It was a rewarding achievement for all members and past presidents who joined hands to the tune of improving the lives of women and girls.

Making its members aware and fully understand the mission of Soroptimist is not an easy job, likewise for the club to be made known in the community. From livelihood projects that will promote economic and social development of the urban poor, to the advancement of the status of women and girls in the community, were among the projects undertaken by the active members and officers of the club through the years, amidst the busy and hectic schedule that their jobs demand.

With the efforts of the current officers as well as the unceasing support of some active Past Presidents, SI CDO will continue to soar high in its commitment to bring out the Best in Women and encourage them to Invest in Dreams.
